Police in Moldova launched raids over a suspected network accused of trying to draw young people into planned violence and mass disorder using social media. Authorities said the alleged scheme targeted students and students in vocational and university institutions through multiple accounts on TikTok and Facebook and channels on Telegram, including one called „ProtestMD”. Investigators began looking into the activity in October 2026, when suspects allegedly created fake profiles and set up Telegram channels. During the operation on Friday, 23 October 2026, officers searched locations in Chișinău and in several towns across the country’s Centre and North regions. The searches were carried out by officers from the National Investigation Inspectorate, representatives of the Intelligence and Security Service (SIS), and prosecutors from the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Causes, with support from the „Fulger” Special Police Brigade. Investigators allege the organizers tried to manipulate participants and reduce their perception of the legal consequences. Police also suspect the group aimed to obtain financial advantages and may have coordinated the planning of actions that could have involved damaging public and private property. Officials said some of the online accounts used to spread messages may have been managed from outside Moldova. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to identify everyone involved, including who created and administered the accounts and what roles specific suspects played. No arrests or detentions were reported in the information released so far. The case remains under investigation.
