Police seize 165 cannabis plants in Welbourn, Lincolnshire
Two men arrested after officers found a grow and a bypassed electricity supply.
Police seized 165 cannabis plants from a property in Welbourn, near Sleaford, Lincolnshire.
Lincolnshire Police carried out a warrant at the address on Friday, October 16, and found the plants across multiple rooms. The cannabis was in the flowering stage, and police said it was estimated to be about two to three weeks from harvest.
Officers arrested a 65-year-old man and a 27-year-old man on suspicion of cultivating cannabis, producing a Class B controlled drug, and abstracting electricity without authority. Both men were released on bail while enquiries continue.
Police said the electricity supply to the property had been bypassed, creating a significant safety and fire risk. The bypass has since been fixed and made safe by the National Grid.
Sergeant Alex Taylor said the grow was a significant operation and that cannabis grows of this nature can involve substantial sums of money. Based on the size and stage of the plants, police estimated it could have generated around £350,000 annually.
The latest status is that the investigation is ongoing, with both suspects released on bail.
