Police arrest 2 after ramming Guardia Civil on Spain’s A-48 with 3,750 litres
The suspects allegedly smashed through a checkpoint, then fled on foot after a chase.
Two people have been arrested after they allegedly rammed two Guardia Civil patrol cars to force their way through a checkpoint on the A-48, in the direction of Vejer de la Frontera.
The incident happened at around 23:45 on Thursday, 15 October, during a Guardia Civil operation aimed at preventing the supply of fuel connected to narcotrafficking. Agents were monitoring the road to stop fuel being provided for narco boats.
When the vehicle reached the control, the driver allegedly hit two police patrol cars and then fled for several kilometres. The Guardia Civil later managed to intercept the car.
The chase did not end there. The two occupants left the vehicle and tried to escape on foot, but were eventually caught and detained.
A search of the car found 150 fuel canisters carrying approximately 3,750 litres of gasoline. The amount is linked to the fuel supplies under investigation in the Guardia Civil’s anti-petaqueo devices.
The detainees are a 43-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman. Both have multiple prior records, and officers also found that the man did not have a driving licence.
As a result of the ramming, both official vehicles suffered material damage and the officers involved sustained minor injuries. All those involved were reported to be in good health.
