Police arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with the death of Hajar, 29, from Amsterdam. Her body was later found in a suitcase in water, and the investigation is ongoing. The arrest came this morning after police received a report of a violent incident at a home in the municipality of Koggenland. Officers found a wounded man at the address and arrested a suspect in the area. Hajar was last seen on Sunday 4 October, leaving from the Rai area in Amsterdam with an unknown cyclist. During the search, police reviewed CCTV footage and identified a man who was seen with Hajar. He was first treated as a witness, but further investigation led police to suspect he may be involved in her death. On 13 October, police published her name and photo to seek tips. Then, in the days leading up to Friday, four officers retrieved a black travel suitcase from the water. Inside was Hajar’s body. The arrested suspect is a 23-year-old man with Somali nationality and no fixed place of residence or stay in the Netherlands. Police said he has been in the country since he was six. The prosecutor indicated he has previously come into contact with justice, including incidents such as shop thefts. Police said there are no indications so far that Hajar and the suspect knew each other. The man is in custody, and police continue the investigation into how Hajar died.
