24 convicted men deported from Ireland to Romania on charter flight
The men, aged 20s to 50s, were removed under EU and exclusion orders banning re-entry for up to 10 years.
Twenty-four men with previous criminal convictions were deported from Ireland to Romania on a chartered flight, with re-entry bans of up to 10 years.
Garda National Immigration Bureau officers carried out the removals on Sunday, October 18, flying the group from Dublin to Bucharest. Gardaí said 18 men were taken directly from Irish Prison Service custody, while the remaining six were arrested and detained across Ireland before being lodged in custody.
The men were aged from their mid-twenties to their mid-fifties. Gardaí said all had criminal histories in Ireland and had been convicted and sentenced by the courts.
The removals were linked to operations tackling sexual and domestic violence, burglary, organised shoplifting, stolen goods, drug trafficking, and repeat driving offences.
A second deportation flight left Dublin the same day and also landed safely in Bucharest, with 24 Romanian nationals on board. As EU citizens, they were removed under the Free Movement Directive.
The 24 men were removed from the State following EU Removal Orders and accompanying Exclusion Orders, with bans lasting up to 10 years.
