Gardaí have seized almost €300,000 worth of high-value items in raids linked to a money-laundering investigation involving a Dublin charity chaired by a Sinn Féin TD. Police raided Liberty Recycling shops in the Dublin, Eastern and Southern regions on Tuesday 20 and Wednesday 21 October 2026, acting in conjunction with the office of the Charities Regulator. Detectives from the Money Laundering Investigation unit at the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau carried out searches across multiple locations. During the raids, Gardaí seized two BMW X5 cars with a total estimated value of €250,000, along with luxury items including Louis Vuitton bags, Rolex watches and jewellery worth a further estimated €40,000. The total value of the seized items was put at around €290,000, with the article describing the seizures as approaching €300,000. Sinn Féin confirmed that Aengus Ó Snodaigh, its TD for Dublin-South Central, is a board member and chairman of Liberty Recycling. The party said it supports the investigation, and that Ó Snodaigh has engaged with the Charities Regulator. It also said he had not been contacted by Gardaí at the time of publication, but would make himself available to assist if required. Liberty Recycling remains registered with the Charities Regulator. In 2024, the charity recorded income of €3.6 million and expenditure of just under €4 million, according to the article. Gardaí said the investigation is ongoing, with the money-laundering probe continuing into the Dublin-based charitable organisation.
