Police seize 4.1 tons of cannabis resin near Fez, arrest three
Truck and boats used in suspected smuggling were seized as the investigation continues.
Moroccan police seized 4.1 tons of cannabis resin near Fez and arrested three suspects, the General Directorate of National Security said.
The operation was carried out early on Saturday by the Regional Judicial Police Brigade in Fez, in coordination with the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance, in a rural area outside the city.
Officers arrested the main female suspect at her farm and found a truck loaded with the cannabis resin. Police also seized four boat engines and four inflatable boats believed to have been used in international drug smuggling operations.
Investigators then arrested two additional suspects after ongoing inquiries into their alleged involvement in the trafficking activity.
A check of national security databases showed the main suspect was already wanted nationwide in connection with a similar case involving drug trafficking and psychotropic substances. All three suspects were placed under judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, as authorities work to identify other people linked to the suspected network and their alleged criminal activities.
