Carabinieri arrest suspected 43-year-old after four robbery attempts
He allegedly used a rifle in Francavilla al Mare and Pescara, taking cash worth 700 euros.
Carabinieri in Chieti have arrested a suspected 43-year-old after an alleged four-episode robbery spree across Francavilla al Mare and Pescara at the end of September.
The man was taken into custody after investigators linked him to a sequence that began with a rifle threat against a woman washing her car, then moved through two restaurants and ended in a Pescara pastry shop.
According to the Carabinieri, the attacks started in Francavilla al Mare when the suspect approached a young woman and allegedly ordered her to hand over the money in her wallet while armed with a rifle. The woman got into her car and drove away, avoiding the robbery.
Minutes later, the suspect allegedly reached a nearby restaurant and stole 100 euros from the cash register. About an hour after that, he allegedly returned to another restaurant, threatened the manager with the weapon and demanded the takings. The manager resisted, and the suspect fled by car.
The spree continued in Pescara, where he allegedly targeted a pastry shop, taking 600 euros in cash. After the last raid, the man allegedly left the rifle at the scene. Police recovered the weapon and took it in hand via a patrol car from the Questura of Pescara.
Investigators said evidence from witnesses and checks on the suspect’s movements allowed them to identify him and reconstruct the route between the two towns. The 43-year-old has previous convictions for property-related crimes and problems linked to drug addiction, the Carabinieri said. A judge for preliminary investigations at the Tribunal of Chieti ordered pre-trial detention on the prosecutor’s request.
The case is now in the investigation phase, with the suspect in custody in the Chieti prison, Madonna delle Piane.
