Police detain a 47-year-old in Sibiu after dumping a dog in a sack
He was held 24 hours and investigated for animal cruelty.
A 47-year-old man from Sadu, Sibiu County, was detained after authorities found a young dog thrown into the River Sadu inside a sack, tied with wire, and dropped from a bridge.
Police say the incident was reported on 17 October at about 09:10, when several people discovered the sack and alerted the authorities.
Officers from the Sibiu County Police Inspectorate, Animal Protection service, went to the riverbank and found a female mixed-breed dog, about 3 to 4 months old, inside the tied sack. The people who made the call also pointed out the sack.
Investigators established that around 08:00 the same day, the man allegedly put the dog into the sack, tied it with wire, and threw it from a bridge over the River Sadu. The dog was found in time, so the animal was not left to suffer.
The dog had no owner. Animal Protection issued an order to place the animal in a shelter and the dog was handed over, free of charge, to an animal protection association.
The man was arrested for 24 hours and taken to the Alba Preventive Detention and Arrest Center. Police are investigating the case for animal cruelty, an offence under Article 25 paragraph (3) letter b of Law 205/2004 on animal protection.
Investigations are ongoing under the supervision of the case prosecutor from the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Sibiu Court of Justice.
