Border police and customs officials seized nearly 55 kilograms of cannabis hidden in a specially made compartment inside a cargo truck near Vidin. The truck was stopped for checks in the territory of the village of Ruzhintsi, Vidin Province, as part of compensating border control measures. Earlier that same day, the vehicle entered Bulgaria from Romania via the Vidin–Calafat border crossing. During a joint inspection, officers found the hiding place in the cargo area, directly behind the driver’s cab. In the compartment they discovered 54,670 kilograms of dried leafy material that tested positive for cannabis on a field drug test. The driver was detained and investigators opened a pre-trial process. They are set to clarify where the drugs came from and their intended purpose.
