Police seize 600 kilos of suspected stolen copper on A-66 in Hinojal
Two men were arrested after officers found 16 rolls hidden in a car’s trunk.
Spanish Guardia Civil officers stopped a car on the A-66 in the Hinojal area after spotting signs of excess weight, and found a hidden haul of suspected stolen copper.
The seized load totalled about 600 kilos, made up of 16 rolls of cable. Officers said the copper had been pelado and cleaned to be introduced into the black market.
The incident came during a speed-control patrol last week. After the vehicle was pulled over for an offence connected to excess speed, officers inspected the trunk when they noticed the obvious weight issue.
To establish ownership and provenance, investigators carried out checks and linked the rolls to a report filed that same morning by a person responsible for a telecommunications company. The company alleged that cable had been stolen during the previous night in the municipal area of Hinojal, and technical checks later found an exact match with the rolls seized in the car.
As a result of the investigation, the copper was seized and two men were detained on suspicion of theft with force, accused of stealing around 600 kilos of telephone cable.
The case remains under investigation following the arrests.
