Police in Vienna arrested a 22-year-old man after he allegedly threatened officers with death on the A23 motorway. The incident happened on 1 November 2026 at 06:45 on the A23 Prater Bridge route to the north in Vienna’s 22nd district. Officers from the state traffic police took him into custody after eyewitnesses reported that he was walking on the motorway and climbing on the bridge railings. Two drivers stopped and pulled the man down from the elevated structure. When police moved in, he behaved aggressively and tried to flee during the operation. Officers then prevented him from escaping, and he allegedly threatened them with being killed. During the arrest, the man refused to take an alcohol test. In questioning, he said he was looking for the shortest way home. Prosecutors in Vienna ordered that he be shown on bail pending further steps, and the matter was handled accordingly.
