An Afghan man was arrested at Tivat Airport after border police checked his details and found he was wanted internationally for rape in Sweden. Border police officers at the Regional Border Police Center “South” stopped the 23-year-old Afghan citizen and carried out checks through Interpol NCB Podgorica. The searches showed he was listed on an arrest warrant issued by Interpol NCB Stockholm to serve a prison sentence for rape. Swedish authorities had issued a European arrest warrant on October 6. Swedish police say the warrant was for a three-year-and-three-month prison sentence under the Swedish Criminal Code. Communication is ongoing between Interpol NCB Podgorica and Interpol NCB Stockholm to carry out the extradition procedure to the competent authorities in Sweden.
