Two alleged scammers used the disguise of “fake carabinieri” to target two elderly women in Alba, taking about 54,000 euros before Carabinieri officers moved in. The operation started on 14 October after multiple reports of attempted scams. Carabinieri from the Alba unit, supported by colleagues from Chieri, tracked down and detained a 51-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman, both originally from the Campania region. Investigators said the pair first struck a 76-year-old woman, stealing 3,900 euros in cash and jewelry worth an estimated 25,000 euros. In a second episode, an 87-year-old woman was targeted, with monili worth about 25,000 euros taken from her home. The total value of the alleged stolen goods came to almost 54,000 euros. Police managed to recover the entire loot, and it is currently being returned to the rightful owners. After the arrests, the man and the woman were taken to prison facilities in Torino and Asti, as ordered by the judicial authority. Their positions are now under the scrutiny of prosecutors, who will assess responsibility during the case. Carabinieri also urged people to be extra careful about phone calls and suspicious visits to homes, and to report any incidents immediately to the authorities.
