Clashes in Tirana as police use tear gas and water cannons
Five arrests made after protesters threw stones, pyrotechnics and Molotov cocktails.
Police in Tirana used tear gas and water cannons to break up violent anti-government protests as clashes with demonstrators flared for a seventh straight day.
Prime Minister Edi Rama renewed an offer of unconditional talks as protesters gathered outside the Education Ministry and later confronted riot police near the Court of Appeal, where stones and pyrotechnics shattered windows.
Authorities said five arrests had been made and another 15 suspects were being sought.
Further confrontations erupted near Rinia Park and the Interior Ministry, where demonstrators hurled stones, pyrotechnics and Molotov cocktails at officers.
Student protests also continued across Albania, with university students boycotting lectures and marching in Lezhe, Vlore, Elbasan and Shkoder.
Rama said his government would meet protesters “anytime, anywhere, without conditions”, but he urged organizers to distance themselves from unrest, stone-throwing and arson, and warned against involving minors in street violence.
As the unrest continues, police have arrests on the record and an active search for additional suspects.
