A 30-year-old man has been charged after a sexual assault in Cheapside, near London Road in Brighton. Alex Ogden, who has no fixed address, allegedly approached a 20-year-old woman after following her for some distance on Friday 9 October. A member of the public intervened, and Ogden fled the scene. He was arrested on 11 October following a rapid police investigation. Ogden has been charged with sexual assault, assault with intent to commit a sexual offence, possession of a bladed article in a public place, and failing to comply with a notification requirement. Detective Inspector Caroline Jeffery said the investigation was fast-paced, with the suspect identified through investigative work and a public appeal for information. She praised the victim’s courage and said specialist officers are supporting her. Jeffery added that police take reports of sexual offending seriously and are committed to protecting the public and supporting victims. Ogden is scheduled to appear at Brighton Magistrates Court on Tuesday 13 October.
