Allan Hopkins extradited to South Australia after child sex case
The 47-year-old is due in Adelaide Magistrates Court after being arrested in NSW.
Convicted child rapist Allan John Hopkins has been arrested and extradited to South Australia after police moved to bring him back over further alleged child sex offences.
The 47-year-old was wanted in South Australia after fleeing the state in 2024. He will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday.
Hopkins was arrested in New South Wales in May 2024 following a police appeal for information on his whereabouts. South Australia police said he was wanted for alleged serious sexual offending against a child under 18. At the time, SA Police also said he faced alleged offending in other states, including Victoria and Queensland.
ABC court documents show prosecutors sought to have Hopkins transferred to South Australia when he faced a NSW court on Monday morning. He was remanded in custody at Broken Hill Police station until 4:00pm on Monday 26 October 2026. On that date, he was to be taken into the custody of South Australian Police for extradition to the Adelaide City Watchhouse by motor vehicle.
Hopkins was previously sentenced to more than 10 years in prison after pleading guilty in 2007 to abducting a 10-year-old girl from her home in Adelaide’s north and raping her. In 2024, he was sentenced to seven months in jail in NSW for theft and driving offences.
He is now in South Australia custody following the extradition process from New South Wales, and is set to face Adelaide Magistrates Court.
