Police carried out a crackdown in Ankara and six other provinces, detaining 45 people suspected of “obscenity”. The arrests were made in an Ankara-coordinated investigation run by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, with simultaneous operations in Diyarbakır, Mardin, Çankırı, Istanbul, Bolu and Antalya. Units from the Ankara Police Department’s Public Security Branch, operating through the Ahlak Bureau, conducted the raids under the prosecutor’s coordination. Prosecutors said they based the case on social media posts allegedly linked to the suspects. They claimed the content was contrary to general morality, and said it would disrupt public order and target family, children and young people. Prosecutors also alleged the posts encouraged “gender unmaking” and listed the main charge as obscenity. The case’s development was followed by lawyers associated with Özgürlük İstiyoruz Kampanyası, which publicly objected to the investigation’s stated grounds. The latest status is that 45 people have been detained while the investigation continues under the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.
