Police arrest wanted Skyfall suspect in Reggio Calabria
Accused man was caught inside a recovery community after disappearing from a custody order.
Police in Reggio Calabria arrested a wanted man tied to the anti-drug operation “Skyfall”, according to Italy’s Polizia di Stato.
The arrest was carried out by investigators of the Polizia di Stato, Squadra Mobile, following an order of pre-trial custody issued in November by the judge for preliminary investigations in Milan. The wider operation involved 28 other suspects in an alleged drug trafficking network linked to the Barbaro clans of Platì and Morabito of Africo.
The accused had gone on the run and became unreachable after the measure was issued. After investigations by the Milan Guardia di Finanza, police in Reggio Calabria started searching on the theory the fugitive could have returned to his home area, seeking refuge locally.
In recent days, officers noticed movements considered anomalous in parts of Reggio Calabria’s provincial capital. Through observation and surveillance, coordinated with the Direzione Distrettuale Antimafia in Reggio Calabria, the search focus narrowed to a recovery community for people overcoming drug addiction in the north of the city.
Police surrounded the building and carried out an irruption. The man was found inside the facility, identified immediately and blocked without resisting. Follow-up checks showed he had been staying in the community for a short time, with the intent to begin detox.
During the search, officers seized the man’s smartphone for further investigative analysis.
He is accused, in various ways, of criminal association aimed at drug trafficking, drug possession for the purpose of dealing, and illegal possession of a weapon. The case remains subject to the principle of non-guilt until final conviction.
