The Guardia Civil has detained four people in Asturias, accused of running a family-linked criminal network behind an alleged bank-card scam and a separate theft worth 39,000 euros. Investigators say the arrests followed reports of fraud in Pola de Lena and a robbery at a home in the area. The card case began after a neighbor reported misuse of his bank card, leading to withdrawals totaling 3,000 euros. Police traced the first fraud to a woman who worked as a caregiver and allegedly had access to both the card and its security code. A younger man was then identified as the one who withdrew the money at ATMs in Mieres. A second complaint then emerged. The victim reported that a woman gained his trust and asked for more than 1,000 euros at the start to cover rent. Police say she later learned where the victim kept his savings and requested to stay overnight at the home. The next morning, the owner discovered that she had left, that the key to a safe had gone missing, and that 39,000 euros were missing. Guardia Civil investigators say photo identifications linked women suspected of both incidents. The probe then mapped the relationships within the group and connected other members to the alleged ATM withdrawals. Police also tied the network to the “abrazo cariñoso” scheme in cases in Carrizo de la Ribera, León, and in Medio Cudeyo, Cantabria. They also detected the sale of jewelry in specialized shops in Oviedo for over 10,000 euros. The four arrests took place on 20 October. The Guardia Civil accuses them of belonging to a criminal organization and of related offenses including theft, burglary with force, bank fraud and money laundering, depending on their role. After the proceedings, two detainees were released to await a court request. The other two were placed at the disposal of the Tribunal de Instancia de Oviedo, criminal section, docket number 4, as the judicial process continues.
