Vienna man allegedly attacked owner and tried to break into vending shop
Police detained a 23-year-old after a father was punched and thrown to the ground.
A 23-year-old man allegedly tried to break into a vending machine shop in Vienna and assaulted the owner’s father when confronted.
Police say the owner spotted the suspect on surveillance camera at around 23:00 on 2 November 2026 at Gablenzgasse in Vienna’s 16th district. The man was seen striking a vending machine and shaking it.
The owner called his father, who went to the shop immediately. There, the father allegedly met a dark-clothed man who was still trying to push and kick the vending machine. When the father attempted to stand in his way, the suspect allegedly shoved him hard to the ground and then punched him.
As the suspect allegedly tried to flee the premises, police who had been informed in advance stopped him. The 23-year-old was taken into custody on a provisional basis.
Emergency services treated the 58-year-old father first at the scene and transported him to a hospital for further medical checks.
