Austria’s National Council has approved new rules to make deporting criminal offenders easier, with removals carried out directly from prison. The plan covers European citizens who do not have a right to stay in Austria. They are to serve their prison terms in their home countries. The Interior Ministry said deportation will happen straight from the period of imprisonment, rather than after release. Under the change, removal orders will ensure that the sentence is served abroad. The decision is backed by a parliamentary vote. The latest status of the measure is that the National Council has agreed to the easing of deportation of criminals from custody.
