An Asante Akyem North MP remains in custody in Amsterdam after two bail applications were rejected, according to Majority Chief Whip Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor. Dafeamekpor said the legal team and parliamentary colleagues attempted to secure bail in two rounds, with both the initial application and an appeal failing. As a result, the MP is still held by Dutch authorities in Amsterdam. The case now heads to an extradition hearing scheduled for November 18, 2026, when a Dutch court is expected to consider the request to extradite the MP to the United States. Dafeamekpor also rejected reports claiming the MP had already been extradited, saying he was still in Amsterdam. He appealed for prayers and said he hopes ongoing legal proceedings will allow the legislator to return to Ghana and continue his parliamentary work. The MP, Ohene Kwame Frimpong, was arrested on May 10, 2026, at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport after arriving from Ghana on a KLM flight while travelling on a private trip, with family members in the United Kingdom. The latest update is that bail has been denied and the MP remains in Dutch custody pending the November 18 extradition hearing.
