Banstead man jailed for violent Tube robberies using knife
Fabian Pawlowski received four-and-a-half years at Harrow Crown Court.
A Banstead man has been jailed for a string of violent London Underground robberies after a British Transport Police investigation.
Fabian Pawlowski, 22, of The Drive, Banstead, was jailed for a total of four-and-a-half years at Harrow Crown Court on Friday 9 October. He pleaded guilty to three counts of robbery and two counts of possession of a bladed article.
The court heard how the first offence happened at around 1.40pm on Monday 27 April, when Pawlowski boarded a Metropolitan Line train at Harrow-on-the-Hill station. He fist bumped a man, sat opposite him, and asked to use his phone. The victim handed over his phone before Pawlowski got off at Northwick Park. When the victim followed him, Pawlowski punched him in the face and left after the victim believed he saw a knife in Pawlowski’s fist.
Three days later, on 30 April, Pawlowski returned to Harrow-on-the-Hill station and approached another man. He shoved his hand into the man’s jeans pocket, threatened him, and took his phone after the victim believed he was going to be stabbed. The court heard the phone was worth over £1,000.
On 15 May, Pawlowski boarded a Jubilee line train between Canning Town and North Greenwich. He targeted a man’s phone, became aggressive, and then pulled two blades from his pocket. He took the phone and left the train.
BTP detectives identified Pawlowski through CCTV enquiries and intelligence and circulated him as wanted. He was arrested by patrolling officers at Stratford station on 16 June. He later pleaded guilty in July after BTP presented an evidence file described as undisputable, including CCTV linking him to all the robberies.
He was sentenced on Friday 9 October and is serving his four-and-a-half year jail term.
