South Yorkshire Police said officers were called on Saturday, 24 October, after a report that the man stole a taxi following the alleged abuse.
Police attended Tesco on Wombwell Road to take witness statements and review CCTV. Officers said footage showed the man arriving in his own vehicle, then going to the customer service desk and claiming he had run out of diesel.
