Arrested in Bassano del Grappa for evading home arrest via hotel
Police caught a man leaving his authorised medical trip and using it to stay at a hotel instead.
Police in Bassano del Grappa arrested a 50-year-old Italian man for evading home detention after he allegedly used a permitted medical outing to go to a hotel.
The operation was triggered by an alert from the Questura di Vicenza’s “Alloggiati Web” portal, after the man registered at a city accommodation despite being under judicial restrictions.
Officers from the Volanti reached the address in time and identified the suspect, confirming he was in regime of house arrest set by an order from the Court of Appeal in Venice. The decision allowed him to leave his home only within specific time windows and for documented needs, or with particular health authorisations.
For that day, he had obtained a special permit to go to the nearest hospital. But during checks, police found he had not gone to the medical facility. Instead, he used the authorisation to travel to a hotel and stay there with a woman.
Because of the alleged, serious breach of the conditions imposed by the court, the man was arrested for the offence of evasion. The arrest was immediately reported to the Prosecutor’s Office at the Tribunal of Vicenza, which ordered he be immediately brought back under home detention at the address identified by the judicial authority.
The investigation remains in progress under the judicial process tied to the arrest, with the suspect back under the same house-arrest measure.
