Man arrested in Belgrade after robbery attack on Vucic’s mother
Police held the 28-year-old suspect for 48 hours and charged him with robbery.
A 28-year-old man was arrested in Belgrade after allegedly robbing Angelina Vucic, the mother of former Serbian president Aleksandar Vucic, on the day of the parliamentary elections.
Prosecutors accuse the suspect of rushing her before noon near Kalenic Market, pushing her and snatching her shopping bag. The woman cut her hand during the incident and called police right after.
According to the account, she had been returning from the market with a bag full of vegetables and fruit when a group of 7 to 8 people allegedly approached. Police say they shoved her, allegedly shouted at her son, and then tore the shopping bag from her. The suspect was arrested Sunday near Kalenic Square.
The Serbian Progressive Party condemned the attack as unacceptable violence and intimidation. The suspect, identified as Nikola Medenica, is being held in police custody for 48 hours before being taken to a magistrate for questioning. He is charged with robbery, and the investigation is continuing.
