Police arrest 43-year-old after allegedly robbing optician in Bergisch Gladbach
She was detained with about 1.5 per mille alcohol after a fight in the shop.
Police in Bergisch Gladbach have temporarily detained a 43-year-old woman suspected of a robbery theft at an optician.
The incident happened on Thursday, 15 October, in the city centre. A staff member said the woman entered the shop around 18:30, took a pair of sunglasses and left without paying.
When the theft was noticed, the employee ran after her into the pedestrian zone. A scuffle broke out, damaging the employee’s own glasses. Passers-by stepped in, pushed the woman back into the shop, and the employee called the police.
Inside the sales area, the suspect allegedly continued to act aggressively, both verbally and physically, and damaged a mirror. Shortly before the officers arrived, she fled.
Police later found her at Konrad-Adenauer-Platz. She has no fixed address and had come to the attention of authorities multiple times for similar offences, police said. A voluntary breath test showed a blood alcohol level of about 1.5 per mille.
An investigation for suspected robbery theft was opened. The woman was taken into temporary custody and brought to police custody at the Bergisch Gladbach police station. She is due to be presented to a custody judge on the same day.
As the case is still at the investigation stage, the outcome in court is pending.
