Officers seized hunting weapons and ammunition after alleged illegal arms purchases dating to 2025.
Police in Bistrița-Năsăud carried out 27 searches and ordered 12 suspects to be brought in for questioning, after an investigation into alleged arms smuggling and illegal weapons possession.
Investigators focused on documenting the activity of 21 people suspected of committing qualified contraband and violating rules on arms and ammunition. From 2025, the suspects are alleged to have illegally procured lethal and non-lethal weapons, including from abroad, along with related ammunition, which they would then have held and used without authorization.
During the raids, police discovered and seized one illegally held hunting shotgun and 15 rounds of ammunition linked to it. They also seized 10 non-lethal weapons subject to authorization and ammunition associated with those weapons.
Twelve arrest warrants for bringing the suspects in were executed, with the individuals taken in for hearings as the investigation continues.
