Police seize guns and explosives in Bitonto box, arrest couple
In the garage they found pistols, 813 grams of drugs, and cash after a raid and search.
Bitonto police arrested a married couple after finding guns, explosive material and drugs in a box-garage in a residential area.
The raid led the police to stop a 32-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman, both from Bitonto, on suspicion of illegal possession of weapons, ammunition, drugs and explosive material. Investigators had followed the couple with surveillance and tailing before intervening when they accessed the garage.
Inside the box-garage, police found a BMW X3 reported as stolen. Officers also seized three pistols of various calibres and 100 rounds. The search turned up numerous non-certified explosive devices, including single-shot explosive material in category F2.
Drugs were also discovered. Police seized 139 grams of cocaine, 713 grams of marijuana and 1,139 grams of hashish, along with packaging materials and precision scales. Officers also found 2,000 euros in cash, described as proceeds connected to dealing.
Both suspects were arrested on a request by the Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of Bari. The man was taken to the Bari prison, while the woman was placed under house arrest with an electronic monitoring device. During the bail hearing on 12 October, the judge validated the precautionary measures, confirming custody in prison for the man and keeping the home arrest for the woman.
The case remains in the preliminary investigation phase.
