Police arrest man in Bomporto trying to steal 25m copper gutter
Carabinieri caught him in the act, after which a judge in Modena convalidated the arrest.
Carabinieri arrested a man in Bomporto after catching him trying to steal a copper gutter from a casolare, in a bid involving a length of about 25 metres.
The incident happened yesterday afternoon in via Brandoli. Officers were called after a resident reported seeing two suspicious people near the abandoned structure.
On arrival, police located the suspect immediately. He was allegedly in the act of detaching the gutter, but got tangled in an electric cable. His accomplice managed to flee.
During the search, the man tried to hide inside the casolare under a table, taking advantage of the missing shutters. Carabinieri found his hiding place and arrested him on the spot.
After being handcuffed and searched, the suspect was taken to the carabinieri security facilities in Castelfranco Emilia, awaiting a hearing to validate the arrest. The arrest was then confirmed by the judge at a direct proceeding at the Modena Tribunal, supported by a photo report showing the gutter had been visibly detached.
The court ordered an interim measure of mandatory presentation to the judicial police three times a week at the Bomporto carabinieri station.
