British Bases police carried out 28 arrests during operations over the past week, targeting suspected offences across both the eastern and western sides of the island. Officials said 22 of the arrests were made in the western areas. Five were linked to offences involving suspected drugs, and one was for an investigation into alleged arson reported on 11 October in Trachoni. A man was detained over the incident and was held until 22 October, when he is expected to appear in court. The five suspected drug cases stemmed from police actions on 8 and 9 October. In Trachoni, two people were arrested after officers found 35 grams of substances believed to be cannabis and cocaine, along with other items seized for further checks. The two were released on conditional bail and are due to appear in court at a later date. The next day, a second operation took place in Ypsonas after information was assessed to tackle suspected drug dealing. Three people were arrested, and officers found suspected cannabis weighing 20 grams and cocaine weighing six grams, along with two smaller amounts of suspected cocaine. The three were also released on conditional bail and are set to appear in court again in the coming days. The remaining 15 arrests in the west involved traffic offences, including driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and driving despite having been disqualified from holding a driving licence. In the eastern areas, police arrested six people for offences including alleged harassment and stalking, possession of small quantities of controlled drugs, and traffic offences. A specialist unit also investigated two bird-trapping cases, seizing four bird-trap nets, eight metal stakes, a device used to imitate bird sounds, and a loudspeaker used to lure migratory birds.
