British police arrest two men again over alleged help to Iran
One 24-year-old man and a 25-year-old dual national were detained twice in the Fairford probe.
British police arrested two men again over suspicions they helped Iran’s intelligence services in an investigation into an incident near RAF Fairford.
Police said the latest arrests followed earlier detentions linked to last month’s incident near the military airbase. One suspect is a 24-year-old British citizen, and the other is a 25-year-old man with British and Iranian citizenship.
The force detained the pair under a national security law from 2023. One man was originally arrested near Fairford, while the other was detained in London.
Counter-terrorism officials said the probe is still ongoing. Assistant Commissioner Lawrence Taylor said police are continuing to gather evidence and that the service believes it is very likely the Iranian state was involved.
The UK prime minister said earlier that the actions near the base were likely coordinated by Iran. Iran’s ambassador in the UK denied that claim.
By the end of September, police released five people detained around Fairford on bail. Before the renewed arrests, officers had also detained another two men, and all seven people had been released on bail at that stage.
The investigation remains active, with the two men arrested again currently held while evidence collection continues.
