Bronx man accused of $50,000 check fraud arrested at Canadian border
Gibrill Diallo faces money laundering, grand theft and scheme-to-defraud charges.
A 20-year-old Bronx man accused of check fraud was arrested at the Canadian border and extradited to St. Lucie County, Florida.
Gibrill Diallo faces charges including money laundering, a scheme to defraud of $50,000 or more, and grand theft. St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office investigators said a check stolen from a Port St. Lucie real estate company was altered and deposited into a bank account opened using a stolen identity.
Authorities said detectives traced the money through multiple bank accounts and Zelle transfers before it was deposited into Diallo’s personal bank account. Diallo was arrested Oct. 14 by Canadian border authorities while he was trying to enter Canada.
He was held at the Niagara County Jail in New York before being extradited to St. Lucie County on Oct. 21. Sheriff Richard Del Toro said detectives followed the money and pursued leads across jurisdictions.
Diallo remains accused and is expected to face the St. Lucie County charges after his extradition, with the case tied to the alleged altered check and stolen-identity bank activity.
