Police raid Bucharest over suspected tourist package fraud affecting 18 people
Investigators say alleged bogus vouchers, contracts and payments caused about 165,140 lei in damage.
Police in Bucharest have raided two locations in an investigation into suspected tourism fraud that allegedly affected 18 people, Romanian media report.
Authorities say a 44-year-old woman, the administrator of a company that intermediates travel services, used fraudulent documents to take money from clients. Investigators believe the scheme ran from 16 December 2024 to 1 July 2026.
Prosecutors and police allege she issued vouchers, travel package marketing contracts, and payment proof including receipts and invoices to induce customers to pay. Victims, police said, paid advances or the full cost for holiday stays in resorts across Romania and for trips abroad.
Police say the money was sent to bank accounts linked to the company and to the administrator. After payments were received, reservations were cancelled under various pretexts, and when victims went to accommodation units they found no valid bookings in their names. Police add that the agency refused to refund the money.
The alleged damage is put at around 165,140 lei. On 4 November 2026, police executed two domestic search warrants in Bucharest, detained the suspect for questioning, and took her to the police unit.
Investigators from the Central Criminal Investigation Service continue the probe under oversight of the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Sector 4 Court of First Instance.
