Police in Burgos have arrested six suspects over the killing of an 83-year-old woman at her home on Calle Vitoria. The homicide took place on 13 October. Four days later, investigators detained two minors aged 16 and 17 who were suspected of carrying out the assault, the theft of jewelry and the victim’s violent death. In total, four adult men have also been arrested over their alleged roles. Investigators say the six suspects each played different parts in the crime, from planning how to enter the house to receiving and later selling the stolen jewelry. Police allege that the motive was economic. Two of the newly arrested men, both residents of Burgos, were already known to police for offences including theft with force and violence, fraud, gender violence and drug trafficking. Authorities believe the pair devised the assault to steal valuables and may have persuaded the two minors initially detained to carry it out. A third new suspect is a 15-year-old. His alleged role was to receive the jewelry and handle its later sale to make profit. After authorized judicial searches at two homes linked to the suspects, police seized effects and evidence connected to the case. The investigation was led by the Specialized and Violent Delinquency Unit of the Police Judicial Court in Burgos. Police said five of the detainees are investigated for homicide and robbery with violence in an occupied dwelling, while the sixth is accused of alleged handling or receiving stolen goods. The investigation is now concluded, without prejudice to the judicial process. The last four arrests will be taken before the court in the coming hours. Adult suspects will appear before the relevant court, while the minor will be brought before the Juvenile Section of the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office in Burgos.
