Police arrest 2 suspects after car rams Guardia Civil in Canalejas
Officers seized 325 litres of allegedly stolen diesel and kept investigating after a third man fled.
Guardia Civil officers in Canalejas de Peñafiel have detained two suspects after a vehicle allegedly rammed a police car during a late-night escape.
The incident happened in the early hours of 28 October, around 02:15, when a patrol spotted a car with suspicious behaviour on the road linking Membribe de la Hoz and Canalejas. The driver allegedly ignored instructions to stop and fled at high speed through town streets.
Officers followed, activating the vehicle’s lights and sirens. The chase ended when the getaway car entered a dead-end street. With no way to continue forward, the driver reportedly reversed abruptly at speed and then deliberately hit the official Guardia Civil vehicle.
The collision damaged the front bumper of the patrol car, but no officers were injured. After the crash, the agents detained the driver and one occupant following resistance.
A third person, who was travelling in the passenger seat, managed to escape on foot and remains unaccounted for.
During the search of the car, the Guardia Civil seized 13 jerrycans holding 25 litres each, totalling 325 litres of gasóleo C, a fuel typically used for heating. Officers also found work gloves, a large funnel, an electric battery and an extraction pump with a plastic hose.
The Guardia Civil said it is still working to locate the missing suspect and to identify the legitimate owner of the fuel so it can be returned. The case forms part of preventive devices targeting fuel theft in rural farming and livestock areas.
