Europol warns of rising cannabis smuggling into Europe
A dedicated Operational Taskforce is set up to dismantle networks behind the trade.
Cannabis smuggling into Europe has surged, Europol warns, with organised crime groups adapting their methods to exploit oversupply in legal markets.
Europol says the growing threat is driven by cannabis availability in legitimate channels and the ability of criminal networks to adjust how they operate. To tackle the evolving trade, a dedicated Europol Operational Taskforce (OTF) has been established to dismantle the networks behind the smuggling.
The taskforce focuses on disrupting the criminal structures linked to cannabis flows coming from North America and Thailand into Europe. Europol says this threat has been rising sharply and that the OTF is designed to dismantle the networks behind the trafficking.
The initiative remains an ongoing effort led by Europol, with the Operational Taskforce continuing its work to take down the criminal networks behind the smuggling.
