Carabinieri arrested a 43-year-old man from Cecina, accused of drug dealing after drugs were found in his home. Police said the suspect, Nicola Checchia, had drawn attention for suspected trafficking activity after officers repeatedly noticed him in the city and observed him meeting different people. During targeted anti-drug services, carabinieri monitored him and then moved in for a house check. At the scene, officers reported the man showed growing nervousness, and they also noticed a strong, distinctive smell of drugs. They found a joint on the kitchen table. The search uncovered about 550 grams of hashish, split into four blocks and several smaller pieces, 21 wraps, and around 10 grams of cocaine in a bag. Officers also seized about 7 grams of marijuana. On top of the drugs, carabinieri found a precision electronic scale and 380 euros in cash. The operation was carried out by the Carabinieri Nucleo Operativo of the Compagnia di Cecina as part of wider territorial controls in the area around piazze Carducci, Nilde Iotti and Gramsci. Checchia is under arrest on suspicion of possession of drugs for the purpose of dealing.
