Police in Ceuta arrested three people suspected of facilitating illegal immigration after finding ten migrants, including four minors, held in an overcrowded property in the Barrio del Príncipe area. During the same operation, a migrant woman told police she was sexually assaulted while under the influence of a drug allegedly administered to her during her stay at the premises. Her brother said he was held against his will and subjected to constant threats. Investigators questioned two siblings who had entered Spain on 30 July. They launched a coordinated investigation to identify those responsible and the extent of the criminal activity at the property. In the early hours of 4 November, police searched the premises. They arrested the alleged leader of the criminal network, charging him with membership of a criminal organisation, facilitation of illegal immigration, unlawful detention, threats, coercion and sexual assault. Two other network members were also arrested and charged with membership of a criminal organisation, unlawful detention and coercion. Police said they enforced discipline within the premises using violence and coercive measures. Officers found ten foreign nationals inside, with conditions described as extreme overcrowding and squalor. The migrants were taken to the temporary reception centre for foreign nationals. Police seized items including a large wooden club and a glass container holding remnants of tablets of a sedative medicine, which police said is significant in the context of the reported sexual assault. The operation is ongoing, and police have not ruled out further arrests. The accused are in police custody as the investigation continues.
