Chinese suspect arrested in Bangkok over suspected $75M crime network
Thai police accuse him of cryptocurrency and forex money laundering across 133 accounts.
Thai police arrested a 37-year-old Chinese man in Bangkok wanted by authorities in China over alleged involvement in an international crime network and money laundering.
Investigators said the network handled more than 500 million yuan, about $75 million, through cryptocurrency and foreign-currency exchanges. Prosecutors also alleged he operated using more than 133 accounts and helped arrange visas for members of international crime groups tied to other money-laundering cases.
Police said the suspect tried to evade arrest by using forged documents to report his residence and by changing vehicle registration plates. Officers later found him in a luxury house in Bangkok.
His Thai visa had expired more than three years ago, and he faces legal proceedings before authorities coordinate his return to China to face the outstanding warrant.
The arrest was reported by Thai media Khaosod English on X, and the matter follows earlier reporting that cryptocurrency platforms have frozen millions tied to Southeast Asia scam networks.
