Six men jailed over 1.5kg cocaine stash in Greenisland, Northern Ireland
Sentences include six years for Clifford Irons after a PCTF investigation.
Six men have been sentenced after Northern Ireland’s Paramilitary Crime Task Force uncovered a cocaine stash worth targeting in Greenisland.
Officers from the National Crime Agency and the Police Service of Northern Ireland arrested the group after almost 1.5 kilos of cocaine were found in November 2020 in Kinbayne Avenue, Greenisland.
Over two days, investigators discovered the drugs in a Vauxhall Astra and a Ford Mondeo parked in a yard, with the cocaine concealed in a hide near the fence.
The Astra was registered to a family member of Dean Cromie, while the Mondeo had been sold to Darren Kelly in January 2020. Investigators found some cocaine separated into self-seal bags, with the cars used as stash locations ahead of onward sale.
The seizures were carried out during an investigation into the organised crime activities of the South East Antrim UDA. NCA officers placed the men under surveillance and recordings showed Clifford Irons, Glenn Burns and David Weir acting as leaders, including instructions to destroy or conceal phones and evidence linked to the seizure.
After the drugs were seized, Weir was also heard instructing third parties to destroy evidence. Phone records showed the group arranged a cash drop-off on the evening of the seizure and discussed law enforcement activity in Greenisland.
All six pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess controlled class A drugs with intent to supply at Belfast Crown Court in September 2025. Cromie and Kelly were sentenced to 20 months imprisonment, suspended for two years, in December 2025. Burns was sentenced on 30 July 2026 to five years in prison, with three years on licence. Irons and Weir were sentenced to six years and two years and four months, while Daniel Vance received two years and eight months.
The NCA also sought Serious Crime Prevention Orders against Burns, Irons and Weir, arguing they had leading roles and may continue supplying drugs after release. A seventh man, Andrew Galloway, pleaded guilty in June 2023 and received a four-month suspended sentence for three years.
Irons remains sentenced following the court outcomes, while the NCA continues work including Civil Recovery and Tax proceedings, which led to the recovery and sale of a property linked to him and freezing orders over almost £6,000 held in a bank account.
