A convicted child rapist has been extradited to South Australia and is due in court in Adelaide over further alleged child sexual offences. The man, who cannot be named by ABC, was arrested in New South Wales in May 2024 after South Australia Police appealed for information about his whereabouts. He was wanted in South Australia over alleged serious sexual offending against a child under 18 after fleeing the state in 2024. South Australia Police also said he was wanted over alleged offending in other states, including Victoria and Queensland. South Australia Police confirmed that a person had been arrested and was being extradited from New South Wales, but provided no operational details. Court documents obtained by ABC said prosecutors sought to have him transferred to South Australia after he appeared in a New South Wales court on Monday morning. The documents said he was to be held at Broken Hill Police Station until no later than 4:00pm on October 26, before being taken into South Australian Police custody and transported by motor vehicle to the Adelaide City Watchhouse. ABC understands he left Broken Hill about midday. The man had previously been sentenced to more than 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to abducting and raping a child. In 2024, he was sentenced in New South Wales to seven months in jail for theft and driving offences. He is due to appear in Adelaide Magistrates Court tomorrow.
