£2,000 of counterfeit electronics seized in Edmonton shop crackdown
Enfield Council and Metropolitan Police hit 15 second-hand phone shops under Operation Reckoning.
Counterfeit electronics worth an estimated £2,000 have been seized in Edmonton after a joint crackdown on second-hand phone shops.
Enfield Council Trading Standards officers and Metropolitan Police visited 15 shops between 15 and 17 September as part of Operation Reckoning.
Among the items taken were imitation AirPods, Apple Pencils, USB cables, phone cases and Sony PlayStation 4 controllers.
Council officials said the action followed concerns about mobile phone theft, particularly in Enfield Town, and aimed to identify stolen devices and disrupt illegal supply chains.
Business owners were reminded of their responsibilities under the Trade Marks Act 1994 and told they must source genuine products from traceable suppliers. Some shops could provide only a supplier’s name and telephone number, without invoices.
Trading Standards has started investigating the wholesalers supplying the counterfeit goods. An Apple representative and local neighbourhood policing teams also supported the operation, and officers warned that counterfeit electrical products can pose overheating, electric shock and fire risks.
The investigation into the wholesalers is continuing, with Trading Standards officers pursuing where the fake items came from.
