Joint probe across France and Belgium leads to 19 arrests over stolen gold and jewellery
A nine-month investigation supported by Eurojust included searches and arrests in late May 2026.
Authorities in France and Belgium carried out an international crackdown targeting criminal groups accused of stealing and reselling jewellery, diamonds and precious metals.
The operation was built around a joint investigation team (JIT) involving both countries, with support from Eurojust. Over nine months, investigators worked together to locate members of the groups and prepare coordinated enforcement actions.
As a result of the investigation, authorities conducted several house searches on 27 and 28 May 2026. The crackdown also led to the arrest of 19 people connected to the criminal groups.
Eurojust said international cooperation was a key factor in identifying and apprehending those involved in the theft and resale of high-value items, including jewellery and diamonds, as well as precious metals.
