A nearly $3 million Bugatti Chiron was stolen from the Rimac complex in Sveta Nedelja, Croatia, prompting the owner to track it and chase the thief across borders before police caught him. Mate Rimac discovered the car missing on October 28. He said an employee reported seeing a stranger drive the supercar away from the company premises. The Chiron, with a base price of about $2.7 million before taxes and fees, sustained minor damage but was repairable. Rimac used the vehicle’s remote tracking data to follow where it was heading. He updated police through a group chat and then pursued the suspected thief in his Porsche 911. The chase took the stolen Bugatti into Slovenia, and eventually Austrian authorities located the vehicle and apprehended the suspect. Rimac said the man was Croatian and in his 30s, and that he had come to the company looking for work before taking the keys and driving off. Security camera footage showed the thief approaching the Bugatti and driving it away. Rimac’s Chiron was his personal vehicle, not a car stolen from the production line. The case was resolved quickly thanks to the car’s tracking data and cooperation between the owner and police.
