Police seize about 1 kilo of meth in Cyprus, arrest 33-year-old
A 42-year-old faces an eight-day remand, and a 25-year-old was also detained.
Police in Cyprus seized about one kilo of crystal methamphetamine after it was found in a postal parcel, arresting a 33-year-old woman in the latest step of the investigation.
The case concerns drug trafficking allegations linked to the consignment, which was discovered in a mail shipment. For the same matter, a 42-year-old man already faces an eight-day remand after appearing at a post office to collect the parcel.
The 33-year-old was taken into custody shortly before 9.00am today under a judicial warrant. The arrest followed information gathered during checks carried out by the Cyprus Police’s Unit for Combating Organised Crime, specifically its Drug Suppression division.
The 42-year-old was arrested on 23 October in Nicosia after he presented himself at a post office to collect the parcel. A judicial order issued on 24 October placed him in eight-day custody for purposes of the ongoing investigation.
During today’s police operation, officers also arrested a 25-year-old on the spot for the offence of illegal stay in the Republic of Cyprus, after it was established he was in the country without legal right.
The 33-year-old remains under custody as the investigation continues.
