A District Court in Donegal has ordered the destruction of four vehicles, including an old Yamaha motorcycle, after they were seized in separate Garda incidents. The court heard the order was granted by Judge Daly following police property applications brought by Garda Sergeant Jim Collins. Sergeant Collins told the court a Yamaha motorcycle was seized at Cappry, Ballybofey at 2.45am on April 22, 2025. The bike had no registration plate, was not insured, and was described as an older type in poor working order and poor condition. Gardaí attempted to trace ownership but no owner came forward. The court also heard about a Peugeot Expert van that came into Garda possession during a traffic stop. Gardaí made attempts to locate a registered owner but were unable to do so, and the man driving the van at the time did not make any effort to reclaim it. A silver Toyota Corolla estate was found abandoned at 12am on the N56 at Illistrin, Letterkenny, on September 22, 2025. The vehicle was seized by Gardaí as a hazard to road users, and no registered owner was located. Finally, a black Mercedes had been in long-term Garda storage after it was involved in a burglary in the St Johnston area. Gardaí liaised with colleagues in the PSNI and said the vehicle was last registered to a known criminal in Derry, but no request was made to have it returned. With no ownership established across the four cases, Judge Daly granted destruction orders for all vehicles.
