Driver suspected of ramming Šćepanović escort in Nikšić, police say
Police also found an unlicensed Magnum pistol and ammunition during searches.
Nikšić police have arrested a driver suspected of endangering and deliberately hitting the security escort of Šćepanović on the Nikšić to Podgorica highway.
Police said the incident happened on 15 October, when a vehicle with a Volkswagen car allegedly made an illegal overtake of the escort, then intentionally made contact with one of the escort vehicles, causing minor damage.
Police said the driver did not stop despite clear signals from officers securing Šćepanović, and the escort vehicle that was hit did not contain the protected person.
Officers moved to the area, stopped and checked the vehicle, and identified M.Đ. as the driver. He allegedly refused an alcohol test, was detained, and brought before the misdemeanour court judge in Podgorica, Department in Nikšić.
During the handling of the case, police said M.Đ. indicated that he knew whose escort it was, and that the motive for the risk was known to police.
To clarify the circumstances and gather evidence, police searched properties linked to M.Đ. in Nikšić, Danilovgrad and Podgorica, as well as vehicles he used. They seized a Magnum pistol with 14 rounds and 117 rounds of ammunition of different calibres that he was not able to document.
The police informed the prosecutor in the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Nikšić. The prosecutor ordered that M.Đ. be arrested on suspicion of preventing an official person from carrying out official duties and that a criminal report be forwarded for further proceedings within the legal deadline. Police said they will issue further statements after additional measures regarding the seized weapon and ammunition.
