Police in Eichstätt jail man after he repeatedly resists and spits
A 46-year-old man was put in custody after attacks on officers during two police deployments.
A police officer was injured and several people were spat on when a man resisted arrest in Eichstätt, and he was later placed in custody. The man, a 46-year-old, allegedly escalated the situation repeatedly in a self-help facility.
Police said the incident began on Thursday at 14:15, when the man did not leave a help and self-help institution on Pfahlstraße voluntarily. Staff called the Eichstätt police station after they said he was highly aggressive and very willing to use violence.
Officers arrived with several patrol units. They found the man in a heavily intoxicated state and asked the staff’s request that he go. After being instructed by the officers to leave, he first left the institution but then returned and kicked the entrance door several times.
To prevent further offences, the police fitted him with handcuffs. He then broke out again and offered massive resistance. During the arrest attempt, he allegedly tried to spit at the officers with force, so a spit shield was used for the officers’ self-protection.
Under high physical effort, the man was taken to a patrol vehicle and brought to the station to be held in custody. During the drive, he allegedly insulted the officers. No one was injured in the second deployment.
Two days after the Thursday incident, the man allegedly triggered another emergency call. Police reported that he remained in an intoxicated state and again resisted intervention.
The Ingolstadt public prosecutor was informed again and requested an arrest warrant from the local court in Ingolstadt. After the man was presented to the custody judge, he was transferred to the nearest correctional facility.
